I have just made a worksheet adapted from a few sites about advertising and branding analysis (especially about how to analyse how efficacious an ad is).
Visual learners will benefit from this mind map most...

to get a series of questions that'll help you

decode any advert... whatever the media :o)

Some of you have just learnt about branding, advertising and globalisation... Many of these are now being conveyed on the Internet : here's a slideshow on how young people use the internet and various social media such as Facebook, MySpace, etc...How are young people using social media ?
"Young people read blogs and use social networking much more than the average internet users : nearly 1 in 3 is a blogger !"

(to) convey = express a thought, feeling or idea so that it is understood by other people   /   slideshow (diaporama)   /   slide (diapositive)

When she planned the clothing drive to collect old clothes...
Sarah knew it :o)
Thanks indeed to C. Segal, the colleague who offered such a good laugh !

You may all know Hugh Laurie, the lead actor in "Dr House" series...

In this short video clip from an awarding ceremony, the actor plays the interpreter of Helen Mirren into French. He seems to be getting on her nerves quite fast, thus she makes it difficult for him ... though in the end it's nothing but self-derision   :o)

The series is American and so is Dr House's accent but yet, the actor is British !
He is said to have worked hard on his accent to pretend he was American : otherwise he would never have got the job !

lead actor = the main role/actor in a film or series  /   get on someone's nerves = irritate someone   /   yet = however    /    to pretend (faire comme si / faire semblant)   /    otherwise = differently than as supposed or expected

... or shall we discover new words for the snow storm that hit some Eastern American states ?

In the beginning of his speech on February 6 at the Democratic National Committee Meeting, President Barack Obama baptised the storm  snowmageddon, comparing its effects with the Armageddon aftermath...

Besides, the  Urban Slang Dictionary already names such storms  snowpocalypses !
How about contemplating an immaculate Washington ?
Here it is, on the video :

Mark Twain's conclusion would have been "everyone talks about the weather, but no one does anything about it"!

aftermath = the period which follows an unpleasant event or accident,
and the effects which it causes

7 weeks after the end of the Copenhagen Summit,

watch this video clip in which Leonardo Di Caprio is prompting us
to act :

He suggests every American should spread the news about the 'Clean Energy' Bill, and make his Senators vote for it.
