Next, use a dictionary and write the new words you learn in your notebook, to brush up this new vocabulary regularly and thus... improve your English :o)

Symphony in slang" was created by Tex Avery in 1951. This 6'43" cartoon includes a great deal of idioms : you will surely recognize some of them !
At the beginning of the cartoon, a man has just arrived at Heavens' Gates. He speaks a weird language that Saint Peter hardly understands. For instance, he claims that he "was born with a silver spoon in his mouth"!
______________________________________________________________________________
slang = a very informal language, rather spoken than written, used especially by particular groups of people ; ex : "guy" is a slang word for "man".
weird = strange / bizarre / odd

You can't imagine how important pronunciation may be... !
Some French may find the English 'th' sound difficult to pronounce, for instance.
Well... the video advert below shows that some Germans find it difficult too.
"We are THinking" is a far cry from "We are Sinking" :
one single sound misunderstood may lead to disastrous mistakes !
I THink this advert does show you how important a good pronunciation is,
and phonetics help ;o)
__________________________________________________________________________________
sink (V) = er... honestly, you should know what it means -it's an irregular verb !!
All right : to those who don't remember : (to) 'sink' means... click here ! < < <
be a far cry from (sthing / sbdy) = be completely different from (sthing / sbdy)

The year is...
1920 : Tennessee guarantees women the right to vote : the 19th Amendment to the Constitution is ratified by the state.

On August 18, 1920 Tennessee became the 36th state to ratify the amendment. Its two
sections read : "The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or
abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex".
1964 : South Africa was banned from the
Summer Olympics in Tokyo...
... because of the apartheid policies.
This ban effectively lasted until 1992.
What is APARTHEID ? <<<
