This song tells the story of Elisa Day and her lover...
how romantic
:-}
Yet, if you listen to its lyrics more attentively,
you'll also be told about murder !

The rock song was written by the Australian singer-songwriter Nick Cave
(vocals by the Australian pop-singer Kylie Minogue).
Nick Cave wrote the song after he heard the traditional song "The Willow Garden
",
which basically tells the story of a man courting a woman (Rose Connelly)
and eventually killing her.

"Where the wild roses grow" was released
in 1995
and became the band's most triumphant single
throughout the world.

Why not listen to it again while reading its lyrics ?

CHORUS
They call me 'The Wild Rose'
But my name was Elisa Day
Why they call me it I do not know
For my name was Elisa Day

From the first day I saw her I knew she was the one
As she stared in my eyes and smiled
For her lips were the colour of the roses
They grew down the river, all bloody and wild

When he knocked on my door and entered the room
My trembling subsided in his sure embrace
He would be my first man, and with a careful hand
He wiped the tears that ran down my face

CHORUS

On the second day I brought her a flower
She was more beautiful than any woman I'd seen
I said, 'Do you know where the wild roses grow
So sweet and scarlet and free?'

On the second day he came with a single rose
Said: 'Will you give me your loss and your sorrow?'
I nodded my head, as I layed on the bed
He said, 'If I show you the roses will you follow?'

CHORUS

On the third day he took me to the river
He showed me the roses and we kissed
And the last thing I heard was a muttered word
As he stood smiling above me with a rock in his fist

On the last day I took her where the wild roses grow
And she lay on the bank, the wind light as a thief
As I kissed her goodbye, I said, 'All beauty must die'
And lent down and planted a rose between her teeth

CHORUS

TRAVEL  AROUND  THE  U.S.A.
WITH  THE  FAMOUS  CARTOONIST
:o)
This cartoon was originally released in August 1939
(Robert Cameron Bruce is the narrator).
It was nominated for the Academy Award as "Best Cartoon of 1939".

This travelogue across America is filled with sight gags such as Indians who walk horizontally up and down the faces of cliffs to get to their homes, a Texas cow puncher who really punches cows, or Mr. Butter Fingers climbing the outside of the Empire State Building like a fly !

By the way... what is a travelogue ?

the Beatles

Videogames, advertising and music blend into this smart 2'36" video
that advertises the upcoming music videogame : "THE BEATLES - Rock Band"

Today's music lovers are offered a chance to discover the "Fab' Four"

The four friends from Liverpool  -John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr-
enjoyed a global celebrity.
At that time, the Fab Four  literally were the most famous human beings on the planet :
whether you liked it or not... the band shook the world :o)

CALVIN  &  HOBBES

Calvin's a six-year-old boy who always gets awfully low grades.
Yet, he's quite a wise little boy -although he rarely uses this wisdom... wisely !

In the French school system, grades rank from O to 20
while they usually rank from A to E or F in the British or US systems.
                                                                                                                                                     grades : British English
                                                                                                                                                  marks : AmericanEnglish

PINK
"Dear Mr President"

 (featuring the Indigo Girls)

Pink sings "Dear Mr President" Live In Wembley,
during her 'I'm Not Dead Tour', in April 2007

LYRICS

Dear Mr. President,
Come take a walk with me.
Let's pretend we're just two people and
You're not better than me.
I'd like to ask you some questions if we can speak honestly.

What do you feel when you see all the homeless on the street?
Who do you pray for at night before you go to sleep?
What do you feel when you look in the mirror?
Are you proud?

How do you sleep while the rest of us cry?
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Can you even look me in the eye
And tell me why?

Dear Mr. President,
Were you a lonely boy?
Are you a lonely boy?
Are you a lonely boy?
How can you say
No child is left behind?
We're not dumb and we're not blind.
They're all sitting in your cells
While you pave the road to hell.

What kind of father would take his own daughter's rights away?
And what kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay?
I can only imagine what the first lady has to say
You've come a long way from whiskey and cocaine.

How do you sleep while the rest of us cry?
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Can you even look me in the eye?

Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Minimum wage with a baby on the way
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Rebuilding your house after the bombs took them away
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Building a bed out of a cardboard box
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
You don't know nothing 'bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
Oh

How do you sleep at night?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Dear Mr. President,
You'd never take a walk with me.
Would you?

Do you have good Facebook manners ?

"Timmy and Alice don’t.
Watch their bad behavior to learn the dos and don’ts of Facebook etiquette."

Timmy and Alice are in a typical 1950’s setting.
The television, the 5 tube radio, the 'Remington Rand' typewriter, and the Brownie camera
were all carefully chosen to make this fake computing machine.
All these elements were specific to the U.S.A. in those days.

This video (created by YourTango.com) was released 3 days ago on the Big Fuel Communications blog :
they are a New York based marketing and communications company
"dedicated to content marketing and consumer engagement".
