Banksy's mural in East London

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/sites/default/files/2011/08/tapphoned_0.jpg

The Daily Mail decodes the image :

"It depicts a water tap being called - a tap phoned - with a simulated phone ringing 'Brinngg, Brinngg' as well as a confused person with a thought bubble which reads 'Oh no... my tap's been phoned.' "

'The Guardian' online hasn't reported yet, but meanwhile you can browse their previous articles on Banksy in the 'Art & Design' Section

When Radio BBC4 interview focuses on Twitter, Hugh Laurie...

http:////upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/91/Twitter-follow-me.jpg... hesitates ("I'm not...") but then admits ("Well actually I am !") he is well signed up to Stephen Fry's(1) Twitter account... He immediately adds he has "purely unmixed feelings about Twitter"... you'll discover them below :

The British actor outlines "the social cost of every tweet" : when for instance, we happen to be bothered -in a restaurant, as messages are received or sent (from underneath the table !)- and our conversations get interrupted...

The gigantic building on the right is not a skyscraper...

it is a heap of US banknotes figuring the amount of the U.S. unfunded liabilities :

114.5 Trillion Dollars -$114,500,000,000,000.

"[...]The unfunded liability is calculated on current tax and funding inputs, and future demographic shifts in US Population. [...]"

"Banks and governments in thes five  shaky economies owe each other many billions of euros -converted here to dollars- and have even larger debts to Britain, France and Germany. Arrow widths are proportional to debt amounts."

Can't see Britain, France or Germany's debt... does it mean they have none ? . . .

Google's domain : registered in 1997 -  Facebook : launched 7 years later

2011's websurfers cannot figure out searching the web without the search engine  -as for Facebook, Zuckerberg's corporation painted the word 'friend' quite a peculiar tinge !

Actually we can hardly imagine the Internet without the two tools. One even happens to forget Google and Facebook are tools that we assumedly control & direct

After all, products usually comply with our needs... not the reverse, heh ?

As a matter of fact, all these data  are true only in an industrialised world...

 The New York City OEM

(Office of Emergency Management)...

http://www.politicususa.com/wp-content/uploads/heat-wave-300x195.jpg

... has issued a Guide to help New Yorkers and visitors cope with the heat wave that is  currently  sweeping over the U.S.A. (up to 125°F/51.6°C in Nevada) : "On warm summer days, New York City can be as much as 10 degrees warmer than surrounding areas. Ready New York : Beat the Heat offers tips on how to stay healthy and cool during the summer months, conserve water and energy, and identify and treat individuals with heat-related illnesses"

To access the 2 PDF pages,

click on the Guide  cover below

http://www.nyc.gov/html/oem/images/getprepared/heat_cover.jpg

The Guide explains that "New York City can be as much as 10 degrees warmer than surrounding areas because the city’s infrastructure – largely made up of asphalt, concrete, and metal – traps the heat." It aims at having you understand the risk factors so as to plan ahead : prevent or treat heat  strokes (or sunstrokes) and heat exhaustion / conserve your energy / save resources in extreme heat / prepare for possible  power outages and disruptions / etc...
